Key Ingredient: Common Cultivated Mushroom for Trapping Fat

CK Ingredients, a Canadian raw materials supplier, has expanded its partnership with Tradichem, a Spanish nutraceutical company known for developing H20Slim. This partnership now allows U.S. manufacturers to access the ingredient for calorie control.

“There’s a lot of talk about weight management in our society,” said Colleen Madden, vice president of innovation at CK Ingredients. She mentioned the shift in focus towards glucose management which has been influenced by products like ‘Ozempic’.

Despite the popularity of GLP-1 agonists, Madden appreciates nutraceutical companies like Tradichem that are exploring simpler physical mechanisms behind natural weight management solutions, such as H20Slim.

According to Madden, this approach offers consumers a more accessible path towards achieving their weight management goals.

How it works

Tradichem extracted polysaccharides from the Agaricus bisporus mushroom used in H20Slim. These polysaccharides have lipid-trapping properties when they come in contact with water. Tradichem claims that this process results in a harmless cationic polymer that can trap up to 80% of consumed fat through physical and electrostatic forces, expelling the fat from the body.

A 12-week double-blind study published in the American Journal of Biomedical Science and Research in 2020 showed that the polysaccharides in the mushroom had a direct impact on weight loss and waist circumference.

Furthermore, the study suggested that the fat-trapping properties of these polysaccharides are likely linked to the observed weight loss effects.
