Potential Weight Management Benefits of Hibiscus-Lemon Verbena Extract: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Supplementation with 300 mg per day of the botanical blend for three months resulted in significant reductions in body fat and waist circumference, according to researchers from ISABIAL, the University of Alicante, and Monteloeder.

The study, published in Applied Sciences, revealed that increased perceived satiety, especially after meals, contributed to the weight loss observed. No muscle or significant water loss was noted. Additionally, the botanical blend helped in lowering blood cholesterol levels, while glucose and blood pressure remained stable.

Metabolaid

The study further supports the potential benefits of lemon verbena (Lippia citriodora) and hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa) extracts contained in Metabolaid. These extracts are standardized to a minimum of 25% verbascoside and 10% anthocyanins, respectively.

Previous research has shown that Metabolaid positively affects hormones, such as glucagon-like protein-1 (GLP-1), which promote satiety.

Plant polyphenols in lemon verbena and hibiscus have antioxidant and fat-blocking properties, enhancing the overall effectiveness of Metabolaid in weight management. Studies have shown that a daily dose of 500 mg led to decreased appetite, reduced calorie intake, and improved lipid profile.

Study Details

The clinical study involved 61 healthy, overweight adults who received 300 mg doses of Metabolaid daily for three months. Led by Alejandro Martínez-Rodríguez, PhD, the researchers observed significant reductions in body weight, body fat, and belly fat in the Metabolaid group compared to the placebo group.

Waist and tricep circumference also decreased in the Metabolaid group. The researchers concluded that the botanical blend could be a beneficial addition to weight loss products as part of a healthy lifestyle.
