New technology from start-up saves food businesses money by reducing heat waste

With the increase in food prices, many food businesses, such as restaurants and factories, are facing financial difficulties.

One of the key issues contributing to this financial strain is wasted energy costs. On average, energy accounts for 15% of total expenses for a typical food business, with a significant amount of heat being wasted.

Enjay’s heat exchanger technology, known as Lepido, offers a solution to this problem by helping businesses reduce their wasted heat and save on energy costs. This technology has already been successfully implemented in restaurants and Europe’s largest pancake factory, Lantmännen’s pancake factory in Laholm, Sweden, resulting in savings of 1.5m kWh and £112,000 per year.

Wasted heat

Enjay’s founder and CEO Jesper Wirén highlighted that a significant amount of energy, around 75%, is lost to the atmosphere due to the lack of heat recovery in process ventilation. This loss of heat is particularly prevalent in the restaurant and food industry sectors, where pollutants like grease, soot, and humidity clog up traditional heat exchangers.

Enjay’s Lepido technology is designed to withstand this harsh environment without the need for pre-filtration or extra maintenance, allowing businesses to recover the lost energy efficiently.

The unique design of the Lepido technology prevents pollutants from clogging up the heat exchanger, ensuring that the heat recovery process is effective.

Wasted costs

Enjay’s primary goal is to help businesses save money, especially in light of the recent increase in food business insolvencies. By using the Lepido technology, businesses can significantly reduce their energy costs and save money that would have otherwise been wasted.

Implementation of this technology in establishments like fast-food restaurants can lead to substantial savings, with potential annual savings of up to £10,000 per restaurant and £112,000 for factories.

Green tech

Enjay positions itself as a green tech company, aiming to not only save money for food businesses but also reduce CO2 emissions. By utilizing the Lepido technology, businesses can reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a cleaner environment.
