NutriLeads aims for worldwide commercialization with €4.5 million in funding.

The financing for the expansion of the gut health ingredient into new consumer markets and geographies was led by existing investor dsm-firmenich Venturing, with support from other current investors.

In a conversation with NutraIngredients, Robin Hesdahl, the company’s commercial director, highlighted the importance of this milestone. BeniCaros, a precision prebiotic derived from upcycled carrot pomace, is currently established in North America, but the team aims to raise awareness in Europe and Asia.

“This milestone enables us to increase market penetration and further explore the health benefits of the ingredient through scientific research,” he explained. The scientifically proven benefits for gut and immune health align well with consumer trends in these regions.

Leilah Thiart, NutriLeads marketing manager, described the ingredient as a ‘precision prebiotic’ designed to nourish specific gut bacteria. The low daily dose requirement of 300mg is gentle on the gut and generates less gas compared to other prebiotic fibers.

The company has also introduced a new single-tier board structure based in Wageningen, Netherlands. The Board of Directors includes Dr. Joana Carneiro (CEO), Alexander Belderok (Chair), Florentine Fockema Andreae, Akshat Kshetrapal, an investment director at dsm-firmenich Venturing, and Bibilotte Duyvesteyn, a specialty nutrition value chain consultant.

Founder Dr. Ruud Albers will move from chief scientific officer to chair of NutriLeads’ scientific advisory committee to provide guidance on research and development initiatives. The transition aims to support NutriLeads’ growth and commercial success.
